The Roof is on Fire!

Last night Austin was hit by a terrible thunderstorm.

My family and I headed out of the house around 7pm to pick up a friend at the airport and then went out to dinner. Our ride back home was illuminated by the constant lightning coming down over the city. As we're nearing the house, the light post is out and the police are directing traffic, I think no biggie, this has happened before when the electricity has been out. We turn into the entrance and at that moment a news van is exiting the complex and we see that the gates are being blocked by several firetrucks, firefighters and policemen.

My husband lets them know that we live there and asks to know if it's alright to go in. We're told that a building caught on fire. To our surprise it was the building right in front of ours which had been struck by lightning and was on fire! Luckily no one was hurt. I took pictures this morning of the aftermath.

Some interesting facts about lightning:

Lightning is 5 times hotter than the sun.

Men are 4 times more likely than women to be struck by lightning.
